LIVING ARTS MISSION:Since 1969 Living Arts of Tulsa has been steadfast in its mission of presenting and developing contemporary art forms in Tulsa.  Living Arts is interested in newly evolving ideas and concepts, in the creation of art forms, in exploring the relationship of art to other disciplines and fields of knowledge, and in sharing its interests with the community through creative workshops, performances, exhibitions, film/videos, demonstrations of current art, lectures, related educational activities and research.

Living Arts achieves its mission by fulfilling two goals: 1) To bring outside artists and works to Tulsa who are pushing their media to its limit and, 2) To present opportunities and challenges for local artists to develop and present new, exploratory works which are not normally seen in Tulsa.

is when the CALL FOR ARTISTS is due. The event is on March 24th.

SCRATCH WORKS-IN-PROGRESS is open to artists of all backgrounds and disciplines who are wanting a forum to share their ideas for performance-based work, a place to try out experimental and developing work in front of an audience, and get feedback to help continue the process of refining and growing work.

Showings should be a short excerpt (2-10 minutes) of a work in its early or developing stages. After each showing, there is a short “talk-back,” where the artist is invited to talk briefly about the work and its direction, and take questions and immediate responses from the audience.

Further guidelines for artists wishing to show their work can be found on the application form, available below:

Weekly Drumming Classes teach people how to become more creative through the beauty of the drum. The public is invited to Living ArtSpace every Wednesday from 7:30-9:00pm - Use the NE door at the side of the building. Leslie Brown, drumming instructor.$10 per session. Living Arts provides djembe and ashiko drums for those who do not own their own.

I have studied music in some form or another for my entire life. I have been a student of the drum for about 15 years...starting with drumming at a Rainbow gathering in Vermont and moving into more focused pursuits with amazing teachers such as: Mohammed Camera, Babatunde Olatunji, Gordy Ryan, Batantou Ferdinand, Michael Back and Jeff Porter, to name a few! I feel honored to be taking on the Wednesday night drumming class. This class has been an integral part of Living Arts for many years. I look forward to infusing West African, Afro-Cuban, Con-golese rhythms, songs and body percussion along with whatever else we want to bring into this class! Please come and create beautiful music and plan on having a good time!
    Thank you,
    Leslie C. Brown
